Art Matters

Readers See Your Book Before They Read It

Most people look at the pictures first. A child flips through a picture book in a store before anyone reads it to them. An adult scrolls past dozens of covers on Amazon in a few seconds. If the art doesn’t make them stop, they won’t get to your story at all.

That’s why our book illustration work starts with your manuscript. We don’t pull from a template. We read the story, ask you about your characters and work out what each scene should show

After that, our illustrators start drawing. You’ll see sketches before any color goes on, and nothing is final until you say it’s good to go.

What Our Book Illustration Services Include

  • Character design.Your main characters get reference sheets with their faces, clothes and expressions drawn from different angles.
  • Storyboards and thumbnails. We sketch out every page roughly first, so the layout and flow are sorted before final art starts.
  • Book cover illustration. A front cover that’s easy to read as a tiny thumbnail online and still looks good once it’s printed.
  • Children’s book illustration.Bright art full of expression for picture books, early readers and middle-grade books.
  • eBook illustration. Art sized and saved so it stays sharp on a Kindle, a tablet or a phone screen.

Editing That Fits Your Story

How Our Book Illustration Services Work

The story’s written. Now it needs pictures that suit it. Hancock Publishers is a book illustration agency that finds the right artist for you and runs the project from the first rough sketch to the final file. From the author, publisher, teacher and the business people, we hear out their needs and design projects accordingly.

01

Brief and Style Direction

We read your manuscript and talk with you about your vision, your readers and any books whose art you love. From there, we suggest a few styles and illustrators that make sense for your story. This first talk is where custom book illustrations really get started.

02

Characters and Sketches

Your illustrator draws the main characters first and then sketches each page. You go through these rough drafts and ask for changes while they’re still quick and easy to make.

03

Line Art and Color

Once you approve the sketches, we move on to clean line work and full color. Our professional book illustrators keep every character looking the same from page one to the end, so no one suddenly changes halfway through.

Layout and Final Files

If you need it, we place your text next to the art and set up files for print and digital. You’ll have everything you need to publish on Amazon KDP, IngramSpark or with a regular printer.

How We Build Your Illustration Plan

Read Your Manuscript

We proceed page by page through the story and note down where art is required, the number of images that would fit and the size of each image.

Agree on Scope and Price

You get a clear quote that covers the number of illustrations, the style, the cover and how many revision rounds you get. You’ll know the full cost before anyone starts drawing.

Choose Your Illustrator

We send you portfolios from artists who fit the style you want. You choose who works on your book.

Sketch Stage

Character designs and page sketches come first. You tell us what you think, and we revise until the layout and characters feel right to you.

Final Artwork

Approved sketches turn into finished, colored illustrations. You look over each one and can ask for changes within your agreed revision rounds.

Delivery and Rights

We send you every final file in print and digital formats. Once the project is paid for, the art is yours to use however you want.

BEYOND LAUNCH

What We Won’t Do

Some illustration companies cut corners to save time. They use stock images, touch up AI-generated art and call it original, or charge you extra for every small change. As a book illustration company, we don’t do any of that.

Here’s what we do promise with our book illustration services:

  • Original art drawn by real illustrators, only for your book
  • A set number of revision rounds agreed on before work starts
  • Full commercial rights to your illustrations once paid
  • Files that work with any printer or publishing platform

Good art takes time. Spending a few extra days on sketches can save you weeks of fixes later on.

The Right Children’s Book Illustration Make All the Difference

Children’s books have page counts, reading levels and layout rules that most readers never notice, but printers and publishers do. As a children’s book illustration agency, we plan every project with that in mind. We focus on:

Illustration Focus 01

Expressive Characters

Clear faces and body language, so young readers can tell how a character feels even before they can read the words.

Book Illustration Styles We Work In

From Simple Sketches to Detailed Book Illustrations in USA

Your art style sets the mood before anyone reads a word. Soft watercolor feels calm and gentle. Bold cartoon lines feel loud and fun. Our book illustration studio works in lots of styles, including:

Watercolor and Hand-Painted: Soft textures and warm colors, great for bedtime stories, picture books and our storybook illustration services.

Digital Painting: Rich, detailed scenes for fantasy, sci-fi, covers and middle-grade books.

Cartoon and Comic Style: Bold lines and lively characters for comics, graphic novels and funny kids’ books.

Line Art and Minimal: Clean, simple drawings for non-fiction, poetry, chapter headers and school books.

Can’t decide which style fits? We can do a quick test sketch in two styles so you can put them side by side before you choose. It’s the simplest way to end up with custom book artwork you’ll still like years from now.
