Words that sound alike
Spellcheck is happy with “their” even when you meant “there.” Same with “affect” and “effect,” or “lose” and “loose.” These slip in all the time, and we go through the whole book looking for them.
After reading your manuscript again and again, it gets hard to spot the small mistakes. Your mind already knows what each line should say, so a missing word or a wrong letter slips right past you. At Hancock Publishers, our book proofreading services give your book a fresh, careful read before it reaches your readers. We go through every page slowly, fix the errors you may have missed, and help you publish a clean book you can feel proud of.

Why It Matters
Readers can forgive a slow chapter. Typos are harder to ignore. A few mistakes early on can make your book look rushed, and some readers will point them out in reviews that stay online for good.
Professional book proofreading stops that from happening. You’ve already spent time and money on writing, editing and design, so a final proofread makes sure small errors don’t spoil it. Before we begin, we’ll ask you a few quick questions:
This helps us fix the mistakes while keeping your writing style exactly as it is.

Errors We Find Often
After working on many books, we’ve noticed the same small mistakes show up again and again. They don’t mean you’re a bad writer. They’re just easy to miss when you know the text so well. Manuscript proofreading finds these issues before your readers do.
Spellcheck is happy with “their” even when you meant “there.” Same with “affect” and “effect,” or “lose” and “loose.” These slip in all the time, and we go through the whole book looking for them.
Say you rewrote a sentence last week. There’s a good chance a word or two from the old version is still sitting there. Sometimes it’s “the the,” sometimes half a sentence, sometimes a word that just vanished. It’s one of the most common things we fix.
It’s easy for Sarah in chapter two to become Sara by chapter ten. Towns, street names and made-up words do the same thing. We keep a running list while we read, so everything stays spelled one way.
A missing apostrophe here, a comma in an odd place there. Quotation marks that open but never close. On their own they seem small, but they can make a reader stop and read the line twice.
Double spaces after a full stop, a line that breaks in a weird place, a heading that’s bold on one page and not on the next. Readers might not know what’s wrong, but they can tell the page looks off.
You start a scene in the past tense and, a few lines later, you’re in the present without meaning to be. Or “the team is” turns into “the team are” two pages on. We smooth these out so nothing pulls the reader out of the story.
How It Works
You’ve worked hard to get here, so we keep the last step easy. Our final manuscript proofreading process is clear and simple, and you always know where your book stands.
Share a few pages of your manuscript with us. A proofreader will correct them and send them back, so you can see the quality of our work before you decide anything.
Once you’re ready, send the full manuscript. We look at the word count and your deadline, then give you a clear price and a delivery date. There are no hidden costs.
Your proofreader goes through the whole book line by line. Every correction is marked with tracked changes, and short comments are added wherever we need your input.
For longer books or detailed nonfiction, a second proofreader reviews the file. Having two people check your work means fewer mistakes get through.
You receive a marked-up copy, a clean copy with all fixes applied, and a short style sheet. Accept the changes, and your book is ready for layout or print.
Proofreading for Every Book
Not every book needs the same kind of help. Some are fully edited and just need a final check. Others still need some work on the writing. With our book editing and proofreading options, we’ll help you pick what suits your manuscript.
Chapter 01
Our fiction proofreading services keep your story consistent and easy to follow. We check character details, the order of events, and dialogue punctuation, while respecting the style choices you’ve made on purpose.
Why Authors Pick Us
As a proofreading company that only works on books, we read a bit of your manuscript first to get a feel for how you write. Then we fix the real mistakes and leave the rest alone.
The Right Person for Your Book. We send your manuscript to book proofreaders who already know your genre, so a romance writer and a business author don’t get the same treatment.
Your Voice, Untouched. We don’t rewrite your lines or change how you sound. If it’s an error, we fix it. If it’s your style, it stays.
Changes You Can See. Every correction shows up as a tracked change, so you can go through them and accept or skip each one.
Your Book Stays Private. Only the people working on your project see your manuscript. We don’t share it, post it or use it anywhere else.
Still Here After Delivery. If you have a question a week or a month later, just send us a message, and we’ll help.
