Why “Publish and Wait” Rarely Works for Children’s Books
Millions of books sit on Amazon. A new picture book with no reviews, a vague category, and a
cover that shrinks to a blur on a phone screen has little chance of being found. Most authors
learn this the hard way. They hit publish, share it on Facebook, and watch the sales line go
flat by week three.
Children’s book author marketing also has rules that adult fiction doesn’t. A parent
wants proof the book is age-appropriate before buying. A librarian wants reviews from trusted
sources. A teacher wants to know whether the story fits a lesson on kindness, feelings or
counting to ten. Ads that would sell a thriller fall flat here.
Our children’s book promotion services start with those questions. Who will buy this
book? Where do they already spend time? What do they need to see before they click “add to
cart”? Once we have the answers, the campaign almost writes itself.
You might come to us with a finished book, a launch date six months out, or a title
that’s been quietly sitting online for two years. Any of those is a fine place to start.
